I am sure the five people who read this were waiting with baited breath to see how I ran on Friday. I ran like crap. I don’t know if it was because I hadn’t been feeling well during the week, the heat, or I started too fast, but I just couldn’t run. I walked a bunch and had little old ladies pass me. That said, I ran it in 33:58. The Husband ran pretty well and finished the race in 23:20. He tells me things and I quickly forget them. Kristina ran it in 29:something.

Here we are before the race, all happy and athletic (and not sweaty).

The best part of the weekend was spending time with Kristina. We drove out Thursday night and stayed at her place with her dog, husband, and kids. Let me say that her kids are absolutely adorable. Not only that, but they are some of the most well-behaved kids I’ve seen in a long time. She says that’s because we were here and they were on their best behavior, but to me that is a mark of good parenting.

It’s not that nothing has gone on, it’s just that I was busy doing other things–like knitting and sleeping and watching TV. You would be extremely surprised at how much time all that takes. However, I will try to write more often even if that means I will start writing fictional accounts of my life. Maybe I will write about my last trip to the moon or my tour as a circus performer.

Anyway.

A month ago, we held a bridal shower for Sarah and of course I took copious photos. You will be stunned and amazed by the fun and food. Well, maybe not the food because the whole table shot didn’t come out, but trust me, there was a ton of food and it was all good.

This may end up being a long tale, but read through because the punch line is fabulous.

Every year for my dad’s birthday (which many of you celebrate as Christmas), my family made a chocolate cake with a white icing. Being the 4 or something geniuses that we were, we gave it the witty monkier of Daddy’s chocolate cake. (I found out recently that it’s really called wacky cake.) The name stuck.

Eventually, we made the cake for every event, from birthdays to parties. The Sister made the icing and I made the cake. When we all moved out the Sister continued to make the cake. I didn’t make it so much for various reasons but this isn’t about me even though the narcisist in me wants it to be.

Except, when the Sister was engaged to “Him” (as she calls him) the cake didn’t turn out right. The cake part just fizzled or something. It may have been our dad telling her (from beyond the grave wooooooo) that this was not the right relationship because when she started dating cyberconte they figured out why the cake didn’t work.

That’s right. It’s an engagement ring on Daddy’s chocolate cake. The Sister is engaged!!!!

She wrote asking to publish one of my free chemo cap patterns at Kisknit. I was extremely excited that someone would even be interested in doing that so I agreed. Granted, in the back of my head I thought it was a hoax or something sinister–someone wanting to make the pattern with original photos theirs for the accolades and fame that naturally comes with pattern making. You never know people are crazy. I figured if they intended to steal my work, at least they asked first. They could have simply taken what was on the site, added their name, and went on their way.

I agreed to let them publish the pattern on two conditions. One, my site would be credited. Not my name because I’m not comfortable with more than my first name out there. Two, that I receive a copy of the publication for my records. I have open wall space in my house after all. I may have also requested my copyright info that has loop holes the size of mac truck be included as well.

One morning last week on my way to work the article popped into my head. It had been a few months and I hadn’t received anything. I was sad that it may have been a con job after all and chalked it up to life lesson #572,031.

That is, until today when I received a copy of the Country Register with my article on page 12. I’m published!
